Inspired by the words "you're fine", a phrase that I often heard meant to be a comfort, which didn't feel much like one most of the time. I tried to capture my feeling of body dysmorphia the best I could with this diptych, one created with only text and the other with pure abstraction. They are created with two colors, pink and red, to signify femininity and the boldness similar to blood, something harsh. The abstraction is meant to depict something similar to breasts while the second piece has a textured background, a diary of a sort about my feelings towards my own body and other’s words to me about my feelings. The words “You’re Fine. Calm Down.” are meant to show the harsh reality that I faced, being told my body was meant to be how it was and to simply deal with it, even if it made me feel wrong both emotionally and physically. I hope that this piece will let others also experiencing body dysmorphia that they are not alone in this struggle and to hopefully educate others the best I can about it.
